Hello and welcome to my website.

 

I’m a library and information services professional with a passion for connecting people with information in meaningful ways. My interests include learning experience design, research in human-computer interaction, information search behavior, and, most recently, social anthropology. I explore the reasons people do what they do and ways to help them achieve positive goals. I am particularly interested in addressing age, racial, and gender biases, improving adult and childhood literacy, and encouraging lifelong learning.

My professional mission is to foster a culture of lifelong learning—whether in person, online, or hybrid. I love exploring creative ways to teach—like using gardening programs to make subjects like math, literature, and science come to life!

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Temple University, as well as master’s degrees in Library Science (MLIS) and Information Communication Technology (MICT) from the University of Kentucky. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s in Learning and Design Technology.

Originally from Philadelphia, PA, I currently reside in Charlotte, NC. I’ve also lived in Boston, MA, and Hastings, NE. Travel is one of my favorite pastimes, and I love experiencing new places. Right now, I’m researching the history and culture of Manitoba, Canada, as part of a book, The Tree Spirits—a contemporary fiction novel with elements of mystery, romance, magical realism, and eco-fiction. I’m sharing passages from the book as they are written as well as insights into my writing process on this site.

When I’m not working or studying, you can find me reading, watching mystery series, or cheering on my favorite sports teams. I also enjoy gardening and cooking for friends and family.

So what is a Gryphonowl? It’s the blend of a mythical griffin and an owl, of course.
