Spirits in the Boreal Forest

The Tree Spirits: Love and Legends in the Boreal Forest

Something is stirring in the boreal forest. Erik Elias Strand, a former AHL hockey player, never imagined that keeping a promise to rebuild his grandfather’s cabin would draw him into a world beyond logic and reason. His dreams are filled with visions of his ancestors, cryptic warnings, and a language he doesn’t understand.

Grace, a librarian and aspiring writer, had always dreamed of seeing the Northern Lights. She loved Christmas and longed for the kind of solitude that would allow her to finally write the book she had been planning for years. But now, standing beneath the vast skies of Thompson, Manitoba, she couldn’t ignore the feeling that something—or someone—had guided her here. A strange series of coincidences had led her to Manitow Farm. What had begun as a simple research project on Cree myths and legends had become something much more profound. Meeting the Rudenkos, the Lavoies, and the Cree Elders had opened doors in more than just the natural realm.

Though she had been a practicing Christian since childhood, she had always believed there was more to the spiritual realm than what she had been taught in Sunday School. She had felt God’s presence during trips to the mountains, hikes in the woods, and in the life she nurtured in her garden. Now, she was being introduced to a world where the natural and spiritual realms meshed, where ancestors spoke through dreams, where the land carried memory, and where the unseen was just as real as the tangible.

And then there was Erik. Brooding, strong, and yet unexpectedly thoughtful, he carried the weight of a past he wasn’t sure how to escape. Their connection was undeniable, but was it fate? Or just another piece of the mystery pulling her deeper into the North? Either way, she couldn’t ignore the way he made her feel—like she belonged, not just in this place, but with him.

Meanwhile, Grace’s brother, Gregory, an investigative journalist, unearths a conspiracy so dark it could fracture nations. A secret alliance of American and Russian elites seeks to dismantle Canada’s sovereignty and seize control of the Arctic. As threats against Gregory and Grace intensify, Erik vows to protect them. But the fight is bigger than any one man—it is the land itself that calls them to act.

Will the strength of their love—bound by passion, destiny, and devotion—awaken a magic powerful enough to defy the forces that seek to destroy the land?

Can the bond of family, the wisdom of ancestors, and the spirits who walk between worlds offer the protection they need?

And in a battle where the fate of the boreal forest, the Arctic, and an entire nation hangs in the balance, can humanity and the unseen forces of the spirit world unite to stop the darkness before it’s too late?

In the latest chapter of The Tree Spirits Erik returns to his cabin to ensure that the unfinished framework is protected from the approaching winter storm. While there, he reflects on the legends, mysteries, spirit guides who walk between worlds, and the prophecies surrounding his home and his life. Erik isn’t sure he believes in spirits, visions, or prophecies. However, he is learning to respect the wisdom of the indigenous elders. And he can’t deny what he has seen.
